Popular Shojo Manga ‘The Rose of Versailles’ Greenlit for Anime Film
‘The Rose of Versailles’ is an acclaimed series famous for depicting grave social issues via a fictional format. You would never guess that such a cutesy shoujo manga can go to the lengths of discussing political and gender-related topics.
Set in the late 1700s, it depicts Oscar, a girl who was raised as a boy in order to inherit and govern her family’s status. In its upcoming movie adaptation, you will encounter Oscar’s inner war that can’t choose between her duties and what she actually wants.
A new website has recently been opened that has revealed an anime film adaptation of ‘The Rose of Versailles.’ More specific details have not been announced yet, but a new trailer is currently streaming for the movie.
The video shows multiple shorts from the series’ manga as well as illustrations of Oscar François de Jarjayes and Marie Antoinette. Since it is set during the French Revolution era, you can expect a riveting story whose ending will ultimately change the world.
A new visual was also shared, showing both the main protagonists. It shows Oscar, a beautiful woman dressed as a man, and Marie, an innocent princess from Austria. The visual also contains the words “Fierce, beautiful, and alive.”
‘The Rose of Versailles’ is a critically acclaimed manga that has already been adapted into several musicals, as well as an anime series. It is also a popular manga in Italy to this day.

The peculiar protagonist, Oscar will soon be torn between her class loyalty and her desire to help the rebellion among the oppressed lower classes. Her own sexuality is also a huge theme in the series. I believe that the series has all the ingredients needed to make a well-rounded anime movie.
