Remember chapter 401 of Haikyu, “Promises?” Kageyama had invited Kunimi and Kindaichi to play sometime while signing autographs? That is exactly where this new chapter starts from. Although they seemed confused, it looks like they have accepted the request.

Chapter 401 took place in November 2018. Just a few months later, in the springtime of 2019, Kunimi, Kindaichi, Kageyama, and Hinata have met to play beach volleyball. Hinata has an obvious advantage with his beach volleyball training in Brazil, but it seems like the sand can’t faze Kageyama as well.

Kunimi strategizes that he will team up with Hinata and make him receive all the serves, but little did he know that the pairings would be decided by a rock-paper-scissors game. At first, Hinata and Kageyama play against Kunimi and Kindaichi, but the wind hinders Kageyama’s serves.

On the other hand, Kunimi has already figured out the wind speed and knows exactly how to use it in his favor. All of them play by exchanging partners till they exhaust themselves.

After a heated match, all of them sit down on the sand to relax, and Kageyama suggests that Kunimi give beach volleyball a try. Kunimi has already exhausted himself and is lying on the sand and asks, “…do you want me to die?”
