Sakamoto Days to Receive a Novel Adaptation Next Year

Sakamoto Days is a franchise that has become immensely popular despite not having an anime and being fairly new to the industry.

Due to its hilarious premise and equally thrilling action, it gained a pretty strong hold over shonen lovers and kept increasing its fan base. This popularity has made the mangaka, Yuto Suzuki, consider adapting the story in other media forms.

Unfortunately, an anime adaptation is still a dream, but a novel series isn’t.

According to Weekly Shonen Jump’s 46th issue, Sakamoto Days will receive a novel adaptation in spring 2023. The novel will also feature an exclusive story, so you shouldn’t miss out on it.

The novel adaptation is part of Sakamoto Days’ 2nd-anniversary project. Besides the novel, it includes a character poll, illustration by Jujutsu Kaisen’s Gege Akutami, posters in Jump GIGA, and more.

Moreover, Weekly Shonen Jump featured Sakamoto Days’ main characters on the cover of its latest 46th issue to commemorate the anniversary. Considering how they’re going all out with all this, new merchandise, and free chapters, I hope they also announce an anime as a surprise.

If you’re not aware of the manga and curious about the hype, then let me start by explaining the story.

It follows an ex-hitman, Taro Sakamoto, who has retired to peaceful life after falling in love and starting a family. Taro may have left the assassin’s life, but it surely hasn’t left him, often forcing him into combat situations to protect his loved ones.

Apart from Taro, the plot features some unhinged characters like Shin, who has clairvoyance, and Lu, the daughter of a Triad family. Both of these highly skilled people join Sakamoto and his family in running their convenience store and helping people.

A running gag in the story is how Taro sometimes fantasizes about killing Shin whenever he annoys him. The latter being a mind reader, becomes both scared and pissed off due to this.
