Solo Leveling Chapter 164: Release Date, Delay, Discussion

In Chapter 163, the Shadow Monarch revealed what happened after the Absolute Being died. The rulers started their hunt for sovereigns and hence another war between the rulers and the monarchs began.

As time passed, the remaining of the fragments begged the Shadow Monarch to stop the war. The Shadow Monarch instead chose to avenge Absolute Being’s death and hid himself to recover.

When he reappeared, the King of Dragons joined hands with him and decided to expand their power to the Earth. The rulers then created the hunters in an attempt to save the world.

Later, the Shadow Monarch chose Jin-Woo as his vessel while the Architect helped transform his body to be able to hold the immense power and created the system. Even though the Shadow Monarch gave him the option, Jin-Woo chose to return to reality.

We bring you the latest chapter updates for this webtoon.

Chapter 164 Discussions and Predictions

Although we learned more about the origin of hunters, it’s still unclear why the Monarchs betrayed the Shadow Monarch when he was their ally against the rulers.

Some fans theorize that the monarchs betrayed him because of the power he possessed, and the Shadow Monarch himself confirmed that he held a crazy amount of power. Though the theory is yet to be confirmed.

In the next chapter, if Jin-Woo successfully recovers from the fatal attack, we will see him and his father Sung Il-Hwan teaming to fight alongside the Beast Monarch and the Frost Monarch.

Both of them are leveled-up hunters and are immensely powerful, so it’s safe to say for now that the two might defeat the monarchs.

Moreover, we might also learn why and where Sung Il-Hwan escaped to. The next chapter will disclose more mysteries.

Chapter 163 Recap

The Shadow Monarch continued the tale and told Jin-Woo that it was already too late when he found the Absolute Being dead. The remaining light fragments declared themselves as ‘Gods’ and started to hunt down the sovereigns.

Rulers started capturing the King of the Giants. As the power between the two sides collapsed, the sovereigns agreed to combine their forces with the Shadow Monarch to hunt down the rulers.

Soon, both the monarchs and the rulers saw the Shadow Monarch as their enemy. The battle continued, and eventually, the rulers requested him to stop fighting. The fragments explained that they just wanted to stop the war when they killed the Absolute Being.

The Shadow Monarch then disappeared for the sake of avenging his master’s death. He planned on striking the forces within him after recovering. In his absence, the monarchs were defeated by the rulers. When he reappeared, the King of Dragons allowed him to join his forces.

This was when they found the Earth and decided to build their army there, but the rulers detected their movements and grew angry. The rulers did everything to save Earth, but were too weak to fight against the sovereigns.

Thus, the rulers decided to create hunters so they could save the world from the sovereigns. They kept using the ‘cup of reincarnation’ until it couldn’t be used anymore.

Sovereigns also borrowed human bodies to descend onto the world, but the Shadow monarch couldn’t find any human body capable of possessing his infinite power. He assigned one of the King’s mages, ‘The Architect’ to find him a body.

The Architect spotted Jin-Woo, and even though he disagreed, the Shadow Monarch picked him as his vessel because he came face to face with death many times. The Architect then created a system and transformed his body, level by level.

The Shadow Monarch then gives Jin-Woo the option to either stay in the illusion forever or to return to reality. Jin-Wo chooses the latter and closes his eyes. As he returns back, he uses the skill ‘arise.’
