As revealed earlier, the anime will run for two consecutive cours or quarters of the year without any breaks. It will feature selected stories from the manga, unlike the 1981 series, which had almost 200 episodes.

Also, the entire series is spread over four cours, not necessarily continuous except for the first two. The third and fourth parts might have breaks and gaps in between.

Considering how the anime will only animate selected stories, it’s obvious that minute details or some side characters might be left out. This also means that only the major portions of the manga and significant storylines will get the privilege to get animated.

However, with such an arrangement, we won’t have to deal with unnecessary and non-canon filler episodes, and the show can go smoothly.

As much as I love all retro-styled anime, I hope the industry starts paying more attention to them and reanimates them with better quality.

About Urusei Yatsura

Urusei Yatsura is a manga series by Rumiko Takahashi. It has a total of 374 chapters and was published from 1978 to 1987. Its anime adaptation received 195 episodes from 1981 to 1986. A new anime adaptation is set to release in October 2022.

In the series, a humanoid alien race invades the Earth but agrees that if the protagonist wins in a game of tag, they will leave it unharmed. Ataru wins against the alien girl, Lum.

Lum misunderstands and thinks Ataru is proposing marriage, and starts living with him and joins his high school. Ataru is a trouble magnet and gets stuck in weird situations pretty often.
