The fourth season just ended and now fans are wondering if there will be an Overlord Season 5 anytime soon, but there’s also the problem of not having enough material to animate.
What is the future of Overlord anime?
When it comes to Isekai anime, Overlord is an outlier. It defies the typical tropes in order to create a vast, original world for the viewers and enchants us with the depth of the characters and of course, the irresistible charm of the main character, Ainz!
Obviously, the fans are very excited at the prospect of Overlord Season 5.
Season 4 has been a major success and we also have the movie coming up. This will be the third movie of the franchise, Sei Oukoku-hen. We are quite excited to see how well it does in the current environment.
Hopefully, the movie will be a success, which will definitely improve our chances of getting Overlord anime Season 5.
In the Year 2138, the MMORPG Yggdrasil was waiting to be shut down. Our protagonist was a true fan and stuck with the game until the end. However, when the servers shut down, he finds himself in a world that is the same as the game.
What separates it from others is the fact that instead of trying to break out or investigate this phenomenon, protagonist Momonga accepts himself in this new world. He begins a grand journey to take control of this new world. Overlord’s fifth season will continue with it and show us how much more there is to be accomplished.
Overlord Season 5 Release Date
Currently, we have no information on Overlord Season 5, since it has not been announced yet. However, given the success of the series, a sequel seems quite probable. We are going to explore that in this section.
In terms of source material, Overlord is struggling a bit. Season 4 will probably tap into the content of Light Novel Volume 15. Which leaves only Volume 16. A normal season takes up 4 to 5 volumes of the story. Hence, right now, more content must be released before the anime can come out.
Now, the release schedule is somewhat irregular. We have no idea when the next light novel volume will be released. In order to have enough content for a sequel, we need up to Overlord Volume 20. And that might take 5 or more years.
Thus, it is highly unlikely that Overlord Season 5 will be greenlit. Despite having great popularity and the high critical acclaim of the fourth season, a fifth one simply is impossible at this point. However, if the pace of volume release is increased, then maybe we can get the new season in 2025.

The Overlord Movie
In the past, two other movies have been released. However, they turned out to be recaps of the first season with additional scenes and interesting content. We expect the third movie to follow in the footsteps of its predecessors.
It will, of course, carry some original scenes, so the movie should be worth a watch for all the dedicated fans of the series.
Overlord S5 Announcement: Lack Of Source Material
As we said before, it is impossible to make a sequel right now. This is why we expect Overlord Season 5 announcement to be delayed for a long time. In about 5 years’ time, hoping that the hype around the series has not died off, we expect it to be announced.
But look at Seasons 3 and 4. They have 4 years between them and even then, Season 4 has been turning heads. It is very possible that Season 5 will continue to do the same for the franchise. We sincerely hope to have an announcement for next season in 2025.
Overlord Season 5 Spoilers
Right now, the great annihilation war is about to commence. The final portion of Season 4 has begun and it looks like they will completely animate the contents of Volume 14. And at the end, they might tease what is to arrive in Volume 15.

And at the same time, Ainz will decide to take a vacation. No one cheats fate though. It turns out that Ainz’s vacation involves Aura and Mare. Together, they are going to visit the Elven Kingdom! The timing of these is bound to create immense chaos in Nazarick.
