A Couple of Cuckoos Anime Reveals Cast for MCs’ Parents for April Debut

Though controversial, the babies-switched-at-birth trope is somehow very emotional. Meeting the biological parents is always followed by strong emotions, but A Couple of Cuckoos has a hilarious take on the whole thing.

It revolves around an unusual couple who were switched as babies, and the only way that their parents could think of a reunion was a marriage between the two.

So, if the baby switch wasn’t enough, the anime covers the arranged marriage trope in the funniest (and incestuous) way possible.

Till now, only the manga readers were getting to enjoy this story, but soon even the anime-only watchers will get to see the chaos.

A Couple of Cuckoos has unveiled an English-subtitled PV for its anime series scheduled for an April 2022 release. It also previews the show’s opening theme, ‘Dekoboko’ (Rough), by Ikimono-gakari’s vocalist Kiyoe Yoshioka.

The PV starts with some soft and low-key romantic scenes shared between Nagi and Erika, who were switched as babies and put into an arranged marriage when they grew up.

It then introduces Hiro Segawa, the beauty with brains whom Nagi has a crush on, and Sachi Umino, Nagi’s adoptive younger sister.

We get to know that Sachi is a protective sister who thinks that Nagi will leave her if he marries Erika, and so she tries to spend as much time as possible with him.

Also, Hiro might be Nagi’s crush, but she’s still the second lead, so all Hiro-Nagi shippers should be prepared for a severe heartbreak.

The franchise also revealed a new key visual featuring Nagi, Erika, Hiro, and Sachi holding eggs in a birds’ nest.

The anime takes up two ancient and problematic tropes but blends them in a way that doesn’t make the audience uncomfortable.

And that’s just how anime works because, let’s face it, we’ve all passed off many questionable things as normal while watching them.

Anyway, this is yet another 2022 rom-com that I cannot wait to see on my screen.

About A Couple of Cuckoos

A Couple of Cuckoos or Cuckoo’s Fiance is a manga by Miki Yoshiwara. It was launched in January 2020 in the Weekly Shounen Magazine.

Nagi and Erika were switched at birth and never knew their real parents. On the day that Nagi was supposed to meet his natural parents, he encounters Erika and is roped into helping her out of an arranged marriage.

Both of them pretend to be girlfriend and boyfriend only to realize later that they are actually fated to marry each other.
