“Attack on Titan” Manga to end in April 2021

Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan manga is finally coming to an end. The announcement was made on Tuesday, which revealed that the popular series’ last chapter would be in the May edition of the Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, which will be published on April 9, 2021. This leaves us with four new chapters to be published. Its 34th, and final, volume, will be released on June 9.

Here is what Isayama had to say about ending his manga:

“I’ve been saying for the last eight years that I’d finish [Attack on Titan] in three years, and finally, it seems like it will be completed. It’s been a very long time coming, but I hope you’ll stick with me until the end.

The editorial team never rushed me to finish the series, but I’ve been continually asked “when will it end?” Thank you for waiting for me.

I will do my best until the last page so you will feel satisfied with what you’ve read.”

Attack on Titan has been serialized in the Kodansha monthly magazine for the past 11 and ½ years, ever since its launch in September 2009. Isayama had planned to end the manga by 2020 and reported that the manga was 1%-2% away from completion back in November last year.

The editors of the manga also tweeted to confirm the news, stating that they were in a rush to complete the remaining chapters:

Among its many adaptations, the TV anime, which started in 2013, is the most popular—and it is currently airing its own final season with one episode every week. This premiered on December 7, 2020, and will have a total of 16 episodes.

The synopsis for the final season of the anime:

It’s been four years since the Scout Regiment reached the shoreline, and the world looks different now. Things are heating up as the fate of the Scout Regiment—and the people of Paradis—are determined at last. However, Eren is missing. Will he reappear before age-old tensions between Marleyans and Eldians result in the war of all wars?

The Attack on Titan manga series has more than 100 million copies in circulation.
