However, this is being done to show us the perspectives of both sides in the upcoming war. History is always written by the winners; thus, we need to understand the whole conflict and its background before deciding for ourselves.

1. Declining Power of Titans

Marley has slowly come to realize that their military superiority is crumbling down. The titans that they have used for ages to maintain a powerful position will no longer work.

Other countries have developed technology that can surpass the power of the titans. Even the citizens of Paradis island (Survey Corps) use technology to cut down titans.

It is visible how two-faced the Marleyan government actually is. They use the Eldians in war, with no hesitation to throw away their lives, yet they are the most discriminated against in society.

2. The Founding Titan Operation

Zeke suggests that the only way to get over this crisis is by recovering the founding titan from Paradis Island. If the Paradis Island Operation is successful, it will add a few more years to the Marleyan military.

However, they also know that the last three missions have not been successful. This means that the people of the island control at least two of the nine founding titans.

Thus we know that the Marleyans will try to invade Paradis in a desperate attempt to save themselves. But are they ready to face the Survey Corps yet?

3. Reiner Braun’s Return

The scene cuts to the return of the warriors to their home, Marley (or, more appropriately, the dingy streets where the Eldians live.) Reiner Braun is finally reunited with his family after his long mission at Paradis.

However, his demeanor has changed. Although he is treated as a war hero, Braun’s attitude shows us that he does not consider himself a hero. His past still haunts him.

He shares his experience at Paradis with his family members but uses very queer words to describe the whole affair. Instead of condemning them, he says that he has met “all sorts of people” there.

His cousins are very confused by the way he speaks. Why isn’t he cursing those devils? How can there be good people in that hell-hole? – These might be some of the questions rising in their minds.

Reiner knows deep inside that he shared camaraderie with the Paradisians. He was probably going through a flashback of the moments when he was happy. This is the demeanor of a person who has realized the truth behind a glorified lie.

4. About Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. Kodansha publishes it in the Bessatsu Shonen Magazine.

The manga began serialization on September 9th, 2009, and continues to date with 30 tankōbom formats.
