Bubble Movie: What Happened In The End?

At the end of the movie, Hibiki and Uta finally take a step ahead in their relationship. Hibiki figured out that it was Uta’s voice that attracted him. He revealed his condition of sensitivity to noises which led him to stay away from the world. But he felt connected and happy when he was around Uta. It also helped him to recover from the detachment. That’s why he used a headphone to detach from the world.

But he didn’t establish this connection with the other bubbles. In the end, the rest of the bubbles took Uta to the tower. So Hibiki and his teammates went to the tower to rescue her. Soon when he reached the top of the tower, he realized a voice that he had first heard when the first Bubble fell from the sky. He headed in its direction to see the Bubble. But the human interaction led the supernatural bubbles to explode, resulting in a catastrophe event around Tokyo.

Uta tried to stop her Bubble family from destroying the entire Tokyo, and she also saved Hibiki from her Bubble family’s wrath before dissolving into Bubble. Hibiki mourns his loss, and soon Tokyo returns to normalcy. The previous habitats continued to play their games in the abandoned city. As for Hibiki, when he crossed the buildings, a small bubble with her laughter floated beside him.

Bubble Ending Explained

Well, the story has a connection with The Little Mermaid. It’s a modern retelling of the classic story. In her bubble form, Uta saw Hibiki and started following him as she was in love with him and decided to interact with him breaking her family rules. In flashbacks, she once interacted with Hibiki when she was just a child triggering the havoc events in Tokyo.

However, her relatives threatened her to destroy the entire Tokyo if she continued to see Hibiki. Uta somehow stopped the bubbles with Hibiki’s help to save him and his friends. Later after saving his life, her mortal version started disappearing, and she dissolved in the water. Just like what had happened in The Little Mermaid, she sacrificed her life to save her lover’s life.
