More stories will be added to Netflix’s ‘Japanese Tales of Macabre.’
Junji Ito, the king of realism horror, returns with another spine-chilling anime produced in collaboration with Netflix. The two have always kept their promise to bring us high-quality content, and they will do so again with ‘Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of Macabre.’
Some of Junji’s most popular and never-before-animated works, as well as some classics, will be featured in the upcoming anime. If you can’t get enough of Junji Ito, Netflix has some good news for you.
Netflix has revealed more titles that will be part of the ‘Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of Macabre’ anime in a new trailer.
The video features ‘Tomie: Photo,’ a school-based scary story from the manga ‘Tomie.’ Aside from that, Netflix has revealed five more stories that will be included in the anime, which will premiere on January 19, 2023. The following are the new titles:
- The Story of the Mysterious Tunnel (Tunnel Kitan)
- Mold (Kabi)
- Layers of Fear (Kyōfu no Jūsō)
- The Thing that Drifted Ashore (Hyōchakumono)
- Back Alley (Rojiura)
New titles also mean new cast members joining the team, which Netflix also covers. More voice actors have been revealed by the official website, and they are as follows:

We’ll have to wait a bit longer to see what characters this newly announced cast will be portraying since the franchise hasn’t yet made those details public.
There is still one title that will be included in the anime, and we are allowed to come up with hypotheses about it.
It feels like Junji has something unique like that planned for it, so I hope it’s one that has never been animated before.
Overview Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre
A forthcoming animation called Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre will air in 2023. A selection of Junji Ito’s top horror pieces are included in it.
Unendurable Labyrinth, The Long Hair in the Attic, Bullied, and more tales are among them. There are even a few tales from Tomie, Soichi, and The Hanging Balloons.
