Part 2 of ‘Gundam: The Witch From Mercury’ to Debut Next Spring

There’s not a single Gundam fan right now who isn’t thrilled for the upcoming ‘The Witch From Mercury’ series. Being the first mainline story in seven years, it has garnered the attention of all and not just fans.

The series also features a female protagonist, which hasn’t been done in the franchise before. She is Suletta Mercury, a transfer student from Mercury studying in the piloting department at Asticassia School of Technology.

Bandai Namco dropped a prequel ONA for the series in July this year, and the anime itself is slated to debut on October 2, 2022. The company has now revealed that the anime is divided into two parts or cours.

‘Gundam: The Witch From Mercury’ anime’s first cour will run from October to December 2022, and the second will air from April to June 2023.

The second cour doesn’t have a specific release date scheduled yet but is supposed to premiere on Sunday in the same time slot as the first. It will be a long wait between the two parts, so I hope they don’t leave us on a cliffhanger, which is unlikely.

Although the story is new and doesn’t require you to watch the previous installments, I still suggest you check out the prequel ONA. The episode contains necessary details about Suletta’s past that will help you understand her character better.

In the prologue episode, Suletta, or Ericht Samaya, has just turned four, and her birthday marked one of the saddest days in her life. The attack on Vanadis Institute in Fólkvangr was her first time operating a Gundam but also the last time she would see her father, Nadim.

While Suletta’s mother and the prologue’s deuteragonist Elnora survived the raid, it’s not yet confirmed whether she’ll appear in the main series.

Moreover, the council planned the attack, which consists of some key figures that will appear in the main series too. Not just that, their children of heirs will also be Suletta’s peers and likely friends.

Likely, Suletta doesn’t know the whole story behind her father’s death and the ambush, so I’m looking forward to how the series handles that.

Another possibility is that Suletta does know everything and has gone to Asticassia for revenge on the people who planned the attack. Let’s see if Suletta is a shy and innocent Gundam pilot or a badass one who seeks to destroy the council.
