Pompo: The Cinéphile Crowdfunds for Old-Style Movie Redesign

Have you ever wanted to understand the nuances, challenges, and complexities of the film industry? Pompo: The Cinéphile explored just that, but perhaps in the wrong way. 

Despite Pompo-san’s prowess and talent in filmmaking, she has only been producing average films. One day, her assistant is tasked with directing a film written by her. 

For a movie that appreciates old-style film, the producers felt like the digital-ness stripped it from reaching its full potential. 

Pompo: The Cinéphile, was released on June 4th, but CLAP studio will be redesigning it for the better. They will bring it to life by using traditional, photographic film for reproduction.

The photographic film naturally adds graininess and texture, creating an aroma of charm and romance that the digital film fails to highlight. 

While I bet it sounds enchanting, film production costs ten times more than regular digital film production, which is where you come in. 

Pompo: The Cinéphile launched a crowdfunding campaign in Japan to support a redesigned version of the actual film to achieve the old-style, filmy vibe. 

The campaign has already passed its goal of raising 10 million yen, and it hasn’t stopped there. It’ll end on August 30th, so here’s your reminder to contribute if you want.

About Pompo: The Cinéphile

Pompo: The Cinephile is an upcoming anime film under studio CLAP. Sugitani released the original manga on the pixiv website starting in 2017.

The film is set in the fictional film industry of “Nyallywood”. Gene Fini is an aspiring producer who works under Pompo who is a talented movie producer.

Pompo hasn’t been having much success with her recent films. When Gene stumbles across a script by Pompo, he marvels at it.

Pompo places the responsibility for the new film on Gini. How will this movie which has a lot of rookie dreams entangled with it turn out?
