Mameda, a tanuki (raccoon), travels to Osaka and thinks she can trick any human she sets her eyes on. Soon she is proven wrong because her disguise is so flimsy that no one gets tricked. This is how she meets a storyteller who is also a transformed fox.
The upcoming anime will show you how Mameda falls in love with traditional storytelling (rakugo) and wants to learn it herself.
Studio LIDEN FILMS is animating the My Master Has No Tail manga, and its anime adaptation will be released in October 2022.
The studio has followed the beautiful manga art style to perfection, and the latest trailer holds testimony to the fact:
Mameda, a tanuki, and her to-be-master, who is a kitsune, are introduced in the trailer. Although Mameda is adamant about learning the art of rakugo, her master knows that it isn’t such an easy deal.
The clever fox comes up with a brilliant idea. She says that Mameda can learn rakugo, but only if she can steal the art from her. (That’s how you avoid babysitting.) Now it’s up to little Tanuki whether she wants to go back to her small village or stay in Osaka and become an artist.

Since rakugo plays a large role in My Master Has No Tail, I am looking forward to getting acquainted with it.
Not only does Mameda need to learn rakugo, but she is also in dire need of some transformation coaching. Can the tanuki girl get over the absurdity of human life to adapt mundane habits of cooking and laundry?
About My Master Has No Tail
My Master Has No Tail is a manga by TNSK which is serialized in Kodansha’s good! Afternoon magazine from January 2019.
The manga features Mameda, a shape-shifting tanuki, who wants to learn the art of rakugo or comic storytelling. She sought out Bunko to be her master.
Yet, Bunko has no intention to have an apprentice. After lots of mishaps, Mameda is taken in and needs to prepare for going through the tough path of being an artist.
