TOHO Reveals New Godzilla Film to Open in November 2023

Godzilla is one of the most popular characters in the world and has been since the 1950s. From kids to the elderly, everyone has seen a Godzilla production during their time, so it’s only natural that new ones would gather loads of hype.

The franchise gives fans something to look forward to every year, and this time it is something we’ve been expecting for quite a while now.

TOHO has revealed that an unnamed Godzilla movie has been slated to come out on Godzilla Day next year, that is, November 3, 2023. Godzilla Japan’s official Twitter handle has revealed a scary-looking logo for the same.

According to sources, this will be the 37th film in the franchise after the 2021 American movie, Godzilla vs. Kong. This will also be the 30th Godzilla live-action film produced by TOHO after Shin Godzilla in 2016.

The untitled film will be the fifth one in Godzilla’s Reiwa era which began with Shin Godzilla and includes three anime movies after that. Considering this, it will be TOHO’s 33rd Godzilla film installment overall.

Now onto the important part.

The untitled Godzilla film will be written and directed by Japanese Academy Award winner Takashi Yamazaki. He has worked on anime films like ‘Stand By Me Doraemon’ and ‘Lupin III: The First’ and live-action movies like ‘Always: Sunset on Third Street and Parasyte.’

TOHO has also revealed that the filming and production are completed, and the film has entered the post-production stage. This means we’ll get a teaser or the title sooner than expected.

Moreover, the film is set in post-war Japan, suggesting that it will have an ample amount of action, scheming, politics, tragedy, and more.
