‘Phantom of the Idol’ Anime Reveals a Chaotic Promo Video for July Debut

Yuuya Niyodo’s idol career changed overnight as the popular late idol Asahi Mogami’s spirit took possession of his body. Phantom of the Idol is a story that brings together horror, music, and comedy like never before.

All Asahi wants is to perform, while Yuuya just wants to laze and reap the benefits of celebrity life, which makes the pair the perfect partners in crime. But they also have to deal with the constant personality changes and questions that are put up because of it.

The Phantom of the Idol franchise has revealed a chaotic new trailer to show precisely the type of situations that Yuuya is forced into because of Asahi. The anime will premiere on July 1, 2022.

The trailer also previews the anime’s theme song ‘Let’s ZING!’ by the ZINGS idol duo made up of cast members Fumiya Imai and Shun Horie.

When you make a deal with the dead, quite literally, the consequences are bound to catch up to you. For Yuuya, it was the immense popularity he gained suddenly because of Asahi, who gave a charming and lively performance.

Fans of Yuuya’s pop-duo ZINGS started to hate him because of his arrogant attitude and lousy singing. With Asahi possessing his body, he managed to gain love and appreciation back, and fans started going crazy over him.

This was a big problem for Yuuya as he absolutely hates socializing and enthusiasm, but to maintain his new and relaxed celebrity life, he had to put in some effort.

Not to mention, Asahi’s intense and almost scary passion for performing also became an issue for Yuuya.

Moreover, the franchise also revealed some additional cast members for ZINGS’ rival and idol group Cgrass. The group’s leader Hikaru Setochi is teased in the new trailer as being highly suspicious of Yuuya.

I’m looking forward to how the whole thing plays out because even though it’s a comedy, Yuuya is still making a risky bet by letting Asahi possess him. I mean, he has made a deal with a ghost. I’m sure something terrible is coming for them.

About Phantom of the Idol

Phantom of the Idol (Kami Kuzu Idol) is a supernatural comedy manga by Hijiki Isoflavone. It began serialization in December 2017 in Ichijinsha’s Comic Zero Sum and has been licensed by Kodansha Comics.

The story is about the lazy Yuuya Niyodo, who’s a part of the idol duo ZINGS. One day after a sloppy performance, Yuuya encounters Asahi Mogami, a cheerful female idol. The twist is that Asahi has been dead for a year, and this turns Yuuya’s life upside-down.
