VA Takahiro Sakurai Apologises for Decade Long Extramarital Affair

On October 26, the tabloid news site The Weekly Bunshun, reported that voice actor Takahiro Sakurai, most famous for voicing Giyu Tomioka in the Demon Slayer series and Arataka Reigen in Mob Psycho 100,was engaged in a decade long extramarital affair with a writer for his travel radio show P.S Genki Desu. Sakurai is a prominent voice actor in the industry and is also known for voicing Rohan Kishibe in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures, Griffith in Berserk, Suguru Geto in Jujutsu Kaisen, Avan in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, and Sasori in Naruto.

The allegations of the affair were confirmed by Sakurai when his voice talent agency Intention updated their official website with an apology statement from the agency and Sakurai in a post titled ‘Apology Regarding Takahiro Sakurai’ on October 27.

Sakurai was married to a former voice actress for about 20 years but kept his marriage under wraps until September 2022. He says he has told his wife about his affair and that they have been talking about their future.

On October 24, Sakurai’s travel radio show ended abruptly with its 470th episode after nine years on air.

According to the report by Weekly Bunshun, the writer Sakurai had an affair with was unaware of his marital status and was hoping to marry him. On learning about his marriage, the writer had to hospitalised for the mental toll it had on her and subsequently retired from the radio show.

His voice talent agency Intention was also unaware of his marriage and affair prior to the allegations.

Currently, there is no word on how Sakurai’s affair will impact his career as he presently voices Reigen Arataka in Mob Psycho 100. However, in the past, voice actors have been replaced due to allegations of misconduct against them.

For Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan OVAs, the Voice actor Vic Mignogna, was removed as Rohan’s voice and replaced with Landon McDonald was after several allegations of harassment and inappropriate behaviour surfaced against Mignogna.
